Seven Innovative Solutions by Angile Energy On Project of Green Power on Daguan Island

Recently, the "Green Power on Daguan Island " project was successfully put into operation on Daguan  Island, Qingdao,Shandong,China,providing 24-hour reliable power supply for residents who regularly live on the island with an area of nearly 0.46 square kilometers. This is the end of no "long-hour electricity" on Daguan Island.

This project is developed and constructed by Qingdao Angile Energy Tech Co., Ltd. (Angile Energy). The "Comprehensive Energy Power Supply System" allows accesses of wind power, photovoltaic power, energy storage and diesel power (backup), providing 24-hour reliable power supply for the island.

The successful running of this project has explored the practical experience of reliable power supply of "Long-hour Power" on remote offshore islands, which is of great significance to exploitation and construction of many islands in China.

Two and a half years from feasibility study and formal power supply

Li Yanquan (Mark Li), Vice President and CTO of Angile Energy, introduced that the feasibility study of the "Green Power on Daguan Island " project started in July 2021, and equipment R&D started in June 2022.

In August 2023, Angile Energy signed a three-party agreement with the local government, which is the official start of the project, and by January 29, 2024, the power system ran officially and began to supply power to the island.

With no similar project experience for reference, this project faces seven difficult issues.To solve the problem, Angile Energy initiated a team with members from Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology and other experts with academic background of the industry to work on this project.

Seven breakthrough innovative solutions

The seven efficient and scientific solutions are:

1. Build an independent micro-grid system

Both the AC inverter module of the comprehensive energy equipment and the distributed all-in-one ESS(energy storage system) have the feature of the grid converter and the active support function of the micro-grid to ensure the reliability and stability of the operation of the micro-grid system.

2. Safe and efficient storage unit

Pack uses liquid cooling for higher efficiency and longer battery life; liquid cooling for converter improves the anti-salt fog ability of the system. The three-levels of fire protection, i.e. water immersion level of fire protection, space level of fire protection, and PACK level of fire protection, enables a direct reflect of the problem cell, along with BMS for cell-level analysis and management, to ensure the safety of the cells.

3. Multi-energy complementary and collaborative optimization

Multi-energy complementary and collaborative optimization with wind power, photovoltaic power, centralized energy storage, diesel generators, distributed all-in-one energy storage system. The local EMS is combined with the remote master station to collect the energy supply status of each equipment, combined with the photovoltaic and wind power generation prediction, through the multi-objective optimization of energy balance, multi-energy coordination, autonomous management technology, to achieve the accurate and rapid solution of the optimal output plan of active units such as energy supply and energy storage equipment, and improve the efficiency of energy utilization.

4. "Cloud-End" collaboration, remote smart operation and maintenance

The system communication is based on "remote master station + broadband carrier", which not only enables the remote "observation, measuring and control" of the equipment, but also collects the status of each distributed all-in-one ESS and integrated energy supply equipment, combines the real-time model, automatically predicts the operating status of the equipment, conducts fault prediction analysis, and provides reliable control strategies for each equipment,ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the system.

5. Double"Centralization + Distribution" power supply , highly reliable power supply

Innovative use of double"centralization + distribution" power supply mode, i.e. centralized regional new energy generation + distributed regional new energy generation, centralized energy storage + distributed energy storage.The centralized photovoltaic panels/wind turbines and distributed all-in-one ESS were installed according to the terrain of the island and the distribution of civil houses.

6. Equipment "high integration, modular design, flexible mobility, easy installation"

Multi-system integration and highly integrated all-in-one design put the battery Pack, multiple converters, fire protection system, liquid cooling unit, power distribution system and EMS in one system. Each unit is designed in modules for plug and play. The cabinet is with mechanical and thermal simulation analysis. The system is flexible and mobile and can be lifted, carried by forklift.

7. Solutions for high salt fog environment on island

 Converter, Pack, electrics, liquid cooling system are designed to be in separate divisions with independent space, rating IP65. The converter is cooled down by an innovative gas-liquid converter, which gives the equipment a longer service life. The shell is sprayed with plastic powder on galvanized sheet, with strong adhesion, better corrosion resistance, fine appearance and durability.

Professor Jiang Qirong, director of the Institute of Flexible Transmission and Distribution System of Tsinghua University and the Department of Electrical Machinery of Tsinghua University, spoke highly of it:

First, electric power supply is available and sustainable on the island, ensuring reliable energy and accelerating the high-quality and sustainable development of the island.

Second, the project is advantaged with multi-energy complementary and collaborative optimization of wind power, solar power, storage, diesel generator, distributed energy storage; with "cloud-end" collaboration for remote smart operation and maintenance. The integrated energy supply equipment has the advantages of "high integration, modular design, flexible mobility and easy installation".

Third, it is a reliable green energy solution to help China exploit and construct remote offshore islands.

Angile Energy is an enterprise that undertakes its social responsibility. It invested millions yuan on this project and donated the integrated power supply system and its facilities to the local government.
